The Claims Conference University Partnership in Holocaust Studies

For Universities in Eastern Europe to Teach Courses on the Holocaust

Applications open on June 30, 2023, and are due by November 10, 2023* Maximum Award Amount: €30,000
Term: the 2024 – 2025 academic year

The Claims Conference provides grants to European universities to fund lecturers to teach courses on the Holocaust for one academic year, with the possibility to extend the grant for up to 4 years.

To be eligible in this application round, the university must:

  • be Eastern European-based and well-established,
  • be a public (government-supported) university,
  • have an established History or another Humanities-related department,
  • be offering no more than 1 Holocaust course currently throughout the university,
  • be able to accept funds from the Claims Conference to pay the chosen lecturer directly.

Requirements:

  • To create a new full-time lecturer position. The lecturer would teach at least 3 Holocaust courses per semester

    at the university, including one course that must be an Introduction to the Holocaust.

  • OR to combine the Holocaust teaching position with an already existing lecturer position at your university to

    teach a maximum of 3 Holocaust courses per semester.

  • The lecturer must offer 4 public seminars, with the support of the university.
  • The university may not add to the lecturer’s responsibilities beyond those related to teaching the courses

    unless the university offers the lecturer a stipend.
