New Publication by Lorena Ortiz Cabrero and Aline Sierp in the Italian Political Science Review
“Memory, post-fascism and the far-right”
We are pleased to spotlight a recent open access publication by Lorena Ortiz Cabrero, a past MSA Assistant, and Aline Sierp, MSA Founding President. Their article, “Memory, post-fascism and the far-right”, published online by Cambridge University Press on October 8, 2024, delves into Italy’s contemporary memory politics and its relevance for understanding far-right mnemonic discourses across Europe.
By analyzing the rhetoric of Italy’s post-fascist party Fratelli d’Italia and comparing it to Spain’s VOX and Germany’s AfD, the authors reveal how strategies of banalizing fascism and invoking nationalist imagery are being deployed and transferred across borders in Europe’s increasingly polarized landscape.
This open-access work is essential reading for those studying memory, populism, and the far-right’s impact on public history.
