For the 2023 AAS-in-Asia Conference

Deadline for proposals submissions: November 7, 2022

The Association for Asian Studies (AAS) and the Institute of Humanities Studies at Kyungpook National University, Korea, are pleased to invite for the 2023 AAS-in-Asia Conference to be held between the 24th and 27th of June 2023 at Kyungpook National University in Daegu, South Korea. The Program Committee seeks organized panels and roundtable session proposals on all aspects of Asian Studies. The proposals are preferred but may not be limited to this year’s theme: “Asia in Motion: Memory, Preservation and Documentation”.

The conference will focus on the study of historical and cultural phenomena in Asia with respect to ‘memory’, ‘preservation’ and ‘documentation’. Through these lenses, they intend to uncover the crisis inherent to the fourth industrial revolution era and discuss a future-oriented development of Asian studies while remembering and reflecting on the paths we have chosen for ourselves over the past centuries. From the perspective of Asian studies, the wish is to engage with their participants on the humanistic values that can co-exist and co-prosper in today’s world in the face of international hegemony and environmental crises. Additionally, in keeping with the goals of previous AAS-in-Asia conferences, the Organizing Committee encourages dialogues across conventional boundaries of academic networks and inquiries. They welcome proposals from scholars representing diverse disciplines, including humanistic disciplines, the social sciences, and the arts.

Proposals should include the following:

  • Session Title & Abstract;
