Dear Colleagues and Friends,
As Co-Chairs of the new Memory & Arts Working Group within the Memory Studies Association (MSA), we would like to put together a series of panels / events for the Association’s next annual conference in Madrid (25-28 June 2019).
The conference’s aim is to move beyond European and Western conceptualisations of memory studies and explore both transnational memory constellations and specific examples of local memory-making around the globe. We would like to contribute to this discussion by considering the arts’ role in the transmission of memory across cultures and illuminating the ways in which the arts can embody and enact the affect of memory. We invite you to send us proposals for papers, panels, workshops, discussions, film screenings, performances and more that might address any of the themes that the general Call for Papers lists (please read the MSA’s CfP here https://www.memorystudiesassociation.org/madrid-conference-2019-cfp/), but with particular attention to the arts.
Proposals should include a title, an abstract of no more than 200 words and a short bio of 80 words. They should be sent to Nela Milic email@example.com Astrid Schmetterling firstname.lastname@example.org.
Since the general submission closes on 1 October, we would need to have your proposals by 1 September 2018, so that we can shape them into a Memory & Arts strand for the Madrid conference. The MSA will send out acceptance letters in January 2019.
Beyond calling for contributions to the Madrid conference, our aim is to form a long-term working group that collaborates on different projects and publications. We therefore encourage you to get in touch with us even if you are not able to participate in this particular conference.
Please note that members of working groups must become members of the MSA.
We look forward to hearing from you
With best regards,
Nela Milic and Astrid Schmetterling
